CANDI KENDALISODHO

Pawitra is the ancient name of Mount Penanggungan. It is written in the Tantu Panggelaran and Negarakrtagama books, as a sacred mountain that is believed to be the place of the gods and ancestral spirits.nnIn the 15th century, there was an effort to Millenarism, namely building a temple with the beruoa Punden Berundak in the mountains, as an effort to restore the fading glory of Majapahit.nnOf the 80's temples, there is one special. Small, but built with a high artistic taste. Almost all of the walls are full of reliefs, complete with the Hermitage Cave on which the walls are also carved with reliefs. That is Kendalisodo, the Masterpiece of Mount Penanggungan Temple.nnKendalisodo Temple is known as Archaeological LXV. That is the serial number of the discoveries of the temples on Mount Penanggungan, a total of 80 temples, which was recorded by Vand Romondt.nnThis temple has three terraces, with three altars at the top. In the middle there are stairs going up to the top. So it is similar to punden berundak. In particular, the walls of the temple are full of reliefs, including the Relief of Panji Stories. The relief is thinly sculpted so that it is susceptible to weather changes.
