General informationnnThe Central Statistics Agency is a Non-Departmental Government Agency that reports directly to the President. Previously, BPS was the Central Bureau of Statistics, which was formed based on Law Number 6 of 1960 concerning the Census and Law Number 7 of 1960 concerning Statistics. As a substitute for the two laws, Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics was stipulated. Based on this law which is followed up with the laws and regulations below, the name of the Central Statistics Bureau has been changed to become the Central Statistics Agency.nnThe material which is new content in Law Number 16 of 1997 includes:nnThe types of statistics based on the purpose of their use consist of basic statistics that are entirely organized by BPS, sectoral statistics carried out by Government agencies independently or together with BPS, as well as special statistics held by institutions, organizations, individuals, and or other elements of society independently or jointly with BPS.nnThe statistical results conducted by BPS are announced in the Official Gazette of Statistics (BRS) regularly and transparently so that the public can easily find out and or obtain the required data.nnReliable, effective and efficient National Statistics System.nnThe establishment of the Statistical Society Forum as a forum to accommodate the aspirations of the statistical community, which is tasked with providing advice and consideration to BPS.nnBased on the law mentioned above, the roles that must be carried out by BPS are as follows:nnProviding data needs for government and society. This data was obtained from censuses or surveys conducted alone and also from other government departments or institutions as secondary datannAssist statistical activities in departments, government agencies or other institutions, in building a national statistical system.nnDevelop and promote statistical engineering standards and methodologies, and provide services in the field of statistical education and training.nnBuilding cooperation with international institutions and other countries in the interests of the development of Indonesian statistics.nnTo implement a variety of programs in the regions and to meet the needs of regional government statistics, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is assisted by BPS representative offices in each provincial and district / city capital, namely Provincial BPS and Regency / City BPS. In South Kalimantan Province BPS there are 13 Regency / City BPS which consist of 11 Regencies and 2 Cities.nnAccording to Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning statistics, BPS representative offices in the regions are vertical agencies of BPS. Each Provincial BPS is headed by a Provincial BPS Head who is in charge of 6 Sectors / Sections namely Administrative, Social Statistics, Production Statistics, Distribution Statistics, Regional Balance Statistics and Statistical Analysis and Integration Processing and Dissemination Statistics. While the Regency / City BPS is headed by a Head of the Regency / City BPS.
