University of Lampung (Lampung Script: UNILA-aksara.png) is the first and oldest public university in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Unila's anniversary was set on September 23, 1965, based on the issuance of the PTIP Minister's Decree which stipulated the establishment of Unila. The desire to establish universities in Lampung was the aspiration of Lampung community leaders since the 1960s, which was intended as a vehicle to educate the community on the level of higher education, because more and more of the best sons and daughters of high school graduates who have to go to Java or Palembang to be able to continue their studies. On the other hand, the newly formed Lampung Province also needs a large number of university graduates to carry out development activities in this area. The aspirations for establishing a university in Lampung were pursued by two committees, namely:nnThe Committee for Establishment and Expansion of Advanced Schools (P3SL), which turned into the Committee for Establishment and Expansion of Advanced Schools and Faculties (P3SLF), was chaired by Zainal Abidin Pagar Alam and Secretary Tjan Djiit Soe.nPreparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Lampung College Foundation (P3YPTL) chaired by Nadirsjah Zaini, M.A. and Secretary Hilman Hadikusuma. Both of the committees were merged into the Lampung Higher Education Development Foundation (YPPTL).
