Nommensen was called to be a missonary of Batak land after Richard Burton and others failed to carry out missions in Batak land. Nommensen was called to be an evangelist in the land of Batak in order to carry out the reformist main mission in Barmen, Germany.nnNommensen came to Batak land in the mid 1880s and succeeded. He used a cultural approach, first learning Batak language and then learning Batak culture. Not surprisingly, Nommensen managed to turn everyone in the northern region of Batak land into Christianity.
