a place of silence and sacred I have ever known. Javanese kings' graves that have a long history.

Very nice place to visit, unfortunately we can't enter all places since is considered sacred place but still nice nonetheless. Just get ready to walking up on stairs but you also can get motorbike ride for about 20,000 rupiah one way

Very nice and solid culture of Yogyakarta can be found here. Not to crowded of tourists as well. Entrance fee is very affordable. Just prepare about small amount of rupiah/person (about 30k)nBe aware of the hundreds stairs to come to the top of this place. And check your visit day. Regularly open on Monday and Friday afternoon.

This was one of the most memorable experiences I have had after 4 years of living in Indonesia. If you are interested in experiencing old Javanese culture, there is no better place to go. I will never forget the experience of sitting next to the old men as they did their prayers over the tomb of the sultan, each one in his traditional clothing, carrying kris, and speaking Javanese.nnA few important points:n1. This place lies at the intersection of history, religion, and culture generally. It is not a tourist destination per se, and there is minimal signage explaining what things are. Therefore, some basic homework beforehand will make the visit much more enjoyable. It's a fascinating topic.nn2. To enter the inner temple/tomb, you must change into traditional clothes (provided for a nominal fee) and put away all phones and cameras (photos in the outer area are fine). These rules are strictly enforced and I've seen people refused entry for not changing their clothes.nn3. Best time to go is when they are saying their prayers at tomb of Sultan Agung. Please remember this is an extremely important religious ceremony for the local people and thus, it's critical to be respectful (e.g. quiet) and polite. Everyone there I met was incredibly warm and happy to answer questions, although very few speak any English.
