Such a terrible experience at Matungou Surf, that I departed after 5 days into my 19-day surf photography trip to stay elsewhere. In my opinion this is a failing business. We came to an agreement about a refund, one instalment was paid, but I was then informed that further payments wouldn’t be made.nnDelayed / Poor communication from Oliver (UK Business partner, to whom I paid a £630 deposit to).nnIncorrect Information on my travel receipt (issued late, by Oliver).nnFailed airport collection.nnThe Boat Captain had very poor ocean knowledge.nnThe Boat Captain seemed eager to save on fuel costs.nnThe Boat Captain was rude me several times, swearing at me on two different occasions.nnI had to ask for the water to be turned on, every time I wanted a shower (or to flush the toilet).nnFilthy (see photo of pillows).nnNo sink in bathroom.nnDue to the intermittent electricity, no cold drinks!nnThe intermittent electricity also meant no lights or fans, right when you need them most!nnWhen you save money for a trip of a lifetime, you shouldn’t be sworn at. The Mentawai Islands are beautiful (and the beach that Matungou is set on is incredible). I would never ever stay at Matungou Surf again and I would never recommend anyone to stay there. The Matungou crew were such a cool bunch to hang with - local guys with lots of stories! Food was spot on - big portions and nice local menu. The bungalows are kinda basic but still amzing with the location and view onto the ocean in the morning.

Such a great spot for waves of all types. Started out quite nervous on the bigger waves but caught some of the biggest, best waves of my life! 10/10 will go again!

Perfect for family trip and enjoy swim with nice coral..and good local food
