In the past, after the Dutch controlled Aceh, this land was emptied of the royal buildings, and a hotel was built. The Dutch named it the Atjeh Hotel, and it was the place to stay for Dutch dignitaries who came to Aceh. This hotel persisted in serving guests until the 1960s. Then its function stopped, until it only took the form of an old building that was spread out in the 1980s. Furthermore, there are parties who want to build a large and luxurious hotel. They initially agreed to the terms and conditions given by the local government. However, when construction began, many components of the agreement were violated which resulted in the withdrawal of the permit. There remained abandoned piles which later became silent witnesses of the tsunami.
