The park was okay. But the people in the village are very unfriendly and all in this criminal organization. So they won't let you do anything on your own. You have to pay for everything you do. Guides, entrance and stuff. When you argue with them they say that they will beat you up.

The Tangkoko NP is one the most famous In Sulawesi and it is easy to spot the animal. The place itself is relatively wild, at least the area which can be seen by the visitors (a tiny small area of the Park). Many motorbikes and cars go in and out of the park. The entrance fee for foreigners is 20 times more expensive then the locals, thing I get used to understand, but surely is not acceptable a 200.000 rupiah per person if you want to get a guide, a must if you want see some animals. Money that the guide just put in their pockets without any receipt etc, no signs out of the park state the prices of the guide you need to bargain. Why? Many of them are not really official guides, anyway which are the official ones? It’s extraordinarily easy spot the animals maybe not all in a same day but definitely many. Why? They are located in very well known area and paths of the park ( it is a secondary and some part only tertiary forest), stated as well on the map just inside of the camp, but if you go by yourself you will not see them. Those animals are in a semi-wild states. Some foreigners which working inside assure us that there are many wild animals inside the real park more close to the extinct volcano and you will find more real forest as well.nIt’s a great place where they are trying to preserve those animals but many things need to be done yet.nI really appreciate the fantastic laidback fishing village atmosphere with some lovely people and the black sandy beach inside the park.

Great chances to see rare endemic animals and birds. Came from Manado on hired car (rented in Airport). Stayed in Tangkoko guesthouse which is in 2 mins walking from the park entrance. Park entrance 100000 for foreigners full day. Morning walk guide 200000 per 1 person. This highly recommended: we saw tarsiers, hornbill, other birds, and black macaques. Evening walk to tarsiers going for night hunting (100000 per person) not to be missed also (though every group is coming to the same tree). And during a day time (between forest walks) we relaxed at Tangkoko beach in reserve itself: beautiful corals, Black macaques on the beach and a family of rare cuscuses at the tree next to the beach. Awesome place!

Such a great experience visiting this well-established national park with some endemic species found nowhere else in the world. Only a short drive from Manado, but a world away. Easy to visit. Not very much hiking involved and saw plenty of animals without much fuss. The guides work together to make sure everyone gets to see something special.

Beautiful forest, rich in unique animal species. Plenty of guides who can take you around and explain the wildlife.
