If you’re looking for real adventure, away from crowded popular spots that have long lost their charm for Instagram invasion, you should trek Tambora mountain, and the best way to do it is arranging it through Tambora Guesthouse.nMy partner had prepared to climb Rinjani before we figured out it was still closed, so quite spontaneously we decided to do Tambora instead. We were very naive thinking that it’s easy to do by ourselves and that it’s not necessary to do 3D2N. The more relaxed pace you take the better, and please consider transportation with these guys from the nearby cities. Message them and see if they can send a car, because buses are cheap but absolutely exhausting and ruining your experience.nAt Tambora Guesthouse we had an amazing time! Words won’t do it justice to tell you how happy we were to stay in a very cozy and clean room, with lovely hot shower and comfortable warm bed after everything we went through in Sumbawa...nThe location is on the slope of Tambora, in the middle of a small Bali Hindu village. People there are very friendly and it was nice to feel safe again after Dompu. Take a walk to the woods and find a beautiful Hindu temple surrounded by massive trees. By the way, it’s also a perfect spot for digital detox as GSM is a rare guest there.nAs I myself didn’t intend to hike, I stayed at the guesthouse waiting for the boys. Rik took a very good care of me and took me to an absolutely miraculous island of Satonda, only 10 min away from Calabai. We shared a boat there and it was spectacular! Basically this island is a volcano’s crater raising from the ocean. I haven’t seen anything as beautiful, and the wildlife... just like on Discovery Channel. It’s definitely a must if you intend to explore other places nearby or stay in, like me. Thank you for this, Rik!nThe boys returned exhausted and happy, and that’s was the best and most rewarding ending of our trip to Sumbawa.nSo, based on our experience, I definitely recommend Tambora Guesthouse to everyone who is interested in hiking Tambora. Rik and his family will take a perfect care of you as guests, give plenty helpful tips on the area and culture and they are just overall lovely people with a cool background.nP.S. You should try some nice cold rice wine as well!
