Kia ora katoa,nnSome things you should know about the Tanjung Balai Asahan to Port Klang Ferry. Indonesia to Malaysia ferry. Sumatra to Malaysia.nnPacific Jetstar is the company that runs it. A Google search reveals a brand new building however this isn't being used yet. The correct location isnnWe paid 470,000 Rupiah each for one way from Tanjung Balai Asahan to Port Klang. Yes, they allow bicycles and motorbikes. Bicycles are 30,000 and motorbikes are 6,200,000. I imagine motorbikes would require additional paperwork too.nnThen there is a boarding pass at Tanjung Balai of 60,000 IDR. This caught us out as we had happily tried to spend all of our money. I tried to use AUD and USD but was rejected by the cashier.nnThere is an ATM very nearby which is a 5 minute Becak ride away. The becak took 15 minutes in total and I was able to find both BRI and BNI ATM's quite close to the terminal. They are not marked on Google.nnBe careful when researching information regarding Tanjung Balai as there is another port with the same name on a small Indonesian island off the coast of Singapore. These are differentiated as Tanjung Balai Asahan and Tanjung Balai ?????.nnWe contacted Ade Sitorus (WhatsApp +62 813 6227 4003) and he is able to answer questions if you have any. We were unable to reserve any places on the ferry through contacting Adi. I would go in person if you wish to do so.nnThere were four immigration officers working to stamp passports at the time of our departure. The ferry ride itself varies from room to room and obviously the ocean conditions on the day. We were happy to have AC however gentlemen right next to it turned it down to aim only at him, and, there were several power cuts during the voyage which meant no air conditioning. Expect to sweat.nnThe only place for fresh air was the designated smoking area. Downstairs is generally cooler and some rooms have more functional air conditioning units than others. Once you're on board you'll be sent somewhere but you are allowed to sit wherever you like.nnThe voyage took 5 hours 30 minutes and once we were in Malaysia we were charged import tax for our luggage. Once we got our stamp we were successfully in Malaysia.

The price for one passenger one way is 470,000 IDR. The price for a bicycle is 30,000 IDR.
