Originally made for the was originally built as a home for Lord Dufferin, Viceroy of India from 1884–1888, this building was acquired by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1964. It is a research Institute which is a home of various academic studies. It is a beautiful colonial building with a botanical garden right in front of it. It is peaceful, calm and serene. Must visit.

The Rashtrapati Niwas (literally the "President's Residence"), formerly known as Viceregal Lodge, is located on the Observatory Hills of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was formerly the residence of the British Viceroy of India. It houses some of the most ancient articles and photographs going back to the times of the British rule in India.

It's such a beautiful place. Viceregal Lodge (aka Indian Institute of Advanced Studies), Henry Irwin's grand, grey sandstone creation resembles a cross between Harry Potter's Hogwarts and a Scottish baronial castle. Half-hour building tours visit three rooms with interesting photo exhibits (one was the billiards room) and the three-storey entrance hall that looks like an MC Escher design built in Burmese teak.Apart from this it has beautiful outdoor ground and picturesque view.
