I spent a week observing a camp for adolescent girls from villages. Though it was a professional visit, the place and the camp touched me personally. I felt the camp was a gift of childhood to the girls. The facilities were safe, simple, neat and eco-friendly respecting each residents' dignity. The scenic beauty of the hills, river in walkable distance, lush green bamboo forests and the greenery of the campus, quality food of variety and nourishing value to children's taste were the highlights. Rare breed of native dogs, cows/bulls and goat from different states make the place an attraction for children. Children were inspired, through the stories of eminent people. They received inputs on gender, power analysis and leadership. They dared to dream. Children had fun experiences like cooking dinner, hiking and staying in a tent. The outdoor play and adventure setups water-based adventures through a pond, zip-liner, tyre walk, climbing the rope everything with the supervision of qualified adventure professionals. There was a camp fire. The space is owned and managed by goodhearted people with enormous experience in child rights, community development, eco-diversity and sustainability Focusing on children's best interests, the camp planners ensure rich, colourful memories for children. The space feels so much like their abode that they are in tears when it is time to say good bye. They say that they have enjoyed themselves like never before. Thanks to the beautiful site.

The place is very good. Even the owner is also very good. The cost could have been little bit low.

I have been there recently with 18 of my colleagues.nnJourney:nWe had to travel to Perumal nagar(palani pirivu) and then take Jeep to kodai camp. It was 12 kms before kodaikanal bus stand and we went further 8km down the hill to reach the spot. Each Jeep charged 300 and we took 3 Jeeps. Nimmi helped us getting the Jeep to the place. Each Jeep can accomodate 6 comfortably and 8 can be managed.nnKodai camp:nWe reached around 8am and the Ambience is very good. We booked tents and we were given dorms initially to keep our luggage. They were 5 bathrooms and 5 letrins for boys and the same count for girls separately. To our surprise we dint have latches for bathrooms and we had to sing or let the other guy wait outside to have a bath. Dorm was clean and good. We had food there and started our trek. The guy who came with us named Ramesh and we had a good time with him. The climate was hot and we dint expect it to be so hot. We started our trek at 10.30 and we reached back to kodai camp at 4.30. It was for 6 hours continuously and be prepared to take your water and snacks. It will be thirsty through the way. While returning from the hill top to the place we had the best adventurous trekking. It was one-of an experience which you can't get it else where. I bet you won't regret the decision of going for a trek once you get down. Since the crowd was 18, we had a wonderful time.nnThere was a small village on the hill top with 5-6 homes and we had snacks and water from there.Then we reached around 5pm to have our lunch. We had a small nap and got ourselves ready for the campfire. It was a lovely setup in the evening with campfire and BBQs. We had a demo from one of the staff and we had good time preparing BBQ by ourselves. Again a different experience with the larger group.nnTents were very clean and had a good time. Best place in kodaikanal, Awesome experience, wonderful hospitality, hygenic food. Great Tent and campfire. You will be amazed by the treking experience with trained guide.
