Gupt Kashi Biswanath is also known as Biswanath Ghat. However, the emphasis to restore the old name can be noticed on the entrance gate. At the confluence of the river Budigang(Briddha Ganga) and the mighty river Brahmaputra, the Gupt Kashi Biswanath is located. The significant of the Gupt Kashi Biswanath emphasized by scriptures of the ancient and medieval period of Assam. Based on Gupt Kashi, the ancient city of Biswanath grew. It was a part of the ancient civilization of the Brahmaputra Valley. Ahom Buranji and Kamarupa Buranji provide references about Biswanath Ghat and the Siva Temple of Gupt Kashi. The Kalika Puran also mentioned instances regarding Gupta Kashi Biswanath. A Comprehensive History of SL Baruah mentioned in its page no 429 as follows- "Some of the most important temple constructed under the patronage of the Ahom Government are the Sukleswar, Rudreswar and Navagraha temples at Gauhati and the Siva Temple at Dergaon and Biswanath". Besides its historical importance, Gupt Kashi Biswanath holds its importance as religious as well as Tourists place.
