Central jail is the main biggest jail in Srinagar. All the prisoners are kept there. The jail provides full security.

Central Jail Srinagar is the oldest jail in the State, its building also bears signs of age and decay. Lots of repair and renovation is done every year to keep it in a good condition and secure. Once located outside the city of Srinagar near the hillock of Hariparbat, the extension of the city has since over-taken it and human settlements have come around it. There is a proposal to shift the Central Jail Srinagar to some other place.
