The Govt. Senior Secondary School Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya is situated in a hilltop near VIP road junction, Port Blair and the campus is spread across the area of 8100 Sq,meters . In the year 1956-58 a Bengali medium School was established at Port Blair. The pioneers were late Bibhuti Bhusan and Shri Jogesh Das. Due to some acute problem, the school had to be closed. Again with the active participation of Shri Binoy Chakraborthy, Shri Samar Choudhury, Shri Bijay Kumar Dutta and many others, Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya came into existence. At the initial stage, the classes were held under the tree shade at the present Zilla Parishad campus. In the year 1963 on the day of Saraswati Puja, the school was inaugurated in a formal way. But due to heavy rain the school had to be shifted to Atul Smrity Samithy (Bangali Club).In the year 1966 the school was recognized by the Administration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Smti. T Nandy was the first Principal of the school from 12 Aug 1965 to 19 Dec 1975 as per available document.
