Beautiful place, cool and shady all over. Walking through the dense forest is the best feeling.nDefinitely a go to destination for adventure lovers, because the various points of beauty on Matheran require walking endurance.nPS:- and yes, beware of monkies.

Matheran is a great weekend holiday spot for family. It is a hill station which measures up to 780m . Beautiful seneric veiws to visit. Matheran has its own light rail way or it is called the toy train. It was started by the British in the 1900's. Veiws from the train are just unbelievable and also Matheran is called the least polluted area of all of Asia. No vehicles or bicycle s are allowed.The only mode for transport is horses and Hand Drawn Rickshaws.Many tourist point are also there like Eco point, Sunrise point, Sunset point, Porcupine point, Panorama point, Honeymoon point and etc etc.nMany Tourists Hotels, guesthouses are also there.

Beautiful weekend gateway nearby Mumbai. Travel time from Dadar station to Neral railway station 1.5 to 2 hours. Neral to Matheran by cab half way 20 mins then walking 40 mins. It's worth spending this to time to relax and roam around 12 points. Bargain with locals for best prices. They are helpful. Try local Maharashtrian food for good tasty food. Go for Khanadala point in the morning for beautiful sunrise by 6 or 7 am.
