This institute comes under the administrative control of ICAR, New Delhi. It undertakes research work on many aspects. Such as Collection and cataloguing of fish Genetic resources of our country, exotic fish monitoring and management, fish disease diagnostic and management, fish cell line development and distribution etc... Not a wide variety of fishes available here. Availability also depends on season sometimes. Today most of the fish ponds were dry and those which had water had a very few fishes. If you are looking forward to start a pisciculture programme you can definitely come here. They'll provide you with fries(baby fishes) of different varieties of your choice and also tell you about how to handle them. Hope this helps.

The Institute has also established GANGA Aquarium one of the largest and magnificent public aquariums in the country. The Institute also undertakes capacity development programmes for various stakeholders including researchers, fish farmers, state fisheries development officials and students.

Very nice institute for research. Scintific and technical staffs are supporting and cooperative. Location is very good and nice. Labs are well equipped. A must visit ganga aquarium is located inside the campus.
