Temple premesis is good. Try visiting early morning have bath in the hot water , trust me that will be worth a experience. And then proceed towards the temple try avoiding the pandas they just focus on money . One can easily enter the temple and worship in their own way, this is more satisfying way. You can see children with rope and magnet waiting for you to throw coins in the pond, they will pick it up as soon as you throw coins. That is worth a show. It is also famous for the samadhis . You can see a lot of them at the backyard. Rest enjoy ud83dude0a
One of the 51 Shakti Peeths is the Mahish Mardini Shakti Peeth.According to the Puranas, the middle eyebrow of Goddess Sati fell here.
It is one if the shaktipeeth where the portion between the eyebrows of Sati fell. Here her vigrah is in Mahishasur mardani form. It is a small shrine in the temple complex where Shiv in form of Bakreshwar is also present in another shrine. The Bhairav here is Vakranath and it is in form of shivling. Bhairav's shrine has subterranean garbhagrih just adjacent to Devi's shrine.nnYou have to purchase religious offering from one temple managed shop only, which charges very high and gives few items only. Priest inside the temple will harass you for cash donation. Temple is open throughout the day.
The word Bakreshwar comes from the name of Lord Shiva worshipped in the locality. Bakra (Vakra) means bent or curved. Ishwar means God. Mythologically it is said that in Satya Yuga during the marriage ceremony of Lakshmi and Narayan, Ashtavakra Muni (then known as Subrata Muni) was insulted by Indra. The muni was so enraged that he developed 8 cripples in his body (Ashtavakra Muni means a sage with 8 curved cripples, probably kyphoscoliotic). Ashtavakra Muni was blessed by lord Shiva here after many years of Tapashya (meditation). This place is also famous as one of the 51 Shakti Pithas where there is a temple dedicated to Adi Shakti. This is a major pilgrimage spot for Hindus.
The Bakreshwar Temple of West Bengal lies on the banks of the Paaphra River and is renowned for its Oriya-style of architecture is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.. Inside the temple complex are the Mahishmardini and the Vakranath temple. The former has ancient paintings of the goddess, preserved well by the Archaeological Survey of Indianhe portion between Devi Sati’s eyebrows- symbolic of her mind – is said to have fallen in this region when Lord Vishnu used his sudarshan chakra on her burnt corpse.nSaid to be one of the most powerful Shakti peethas, Bakreshwar (also called Vakreshwar) , the idol worshipped is Devi Mahishmardini (destroyer of Mahishasur) who is protected by the Bhairav Vakranath. This region is known particularly for its scenic beauty. There are seven hot springs surrounding the region- Agni Kund, Brahma Kund, Surya Kund, Saubhagya Kund, Amrita Kund, Kheer Kund, Jibat Kund and Vairav Kund, and each is associated with a Shiv Linga. The Shiv Lingas can be found close to every spring. The Mahamuni Ashtabhakta is said to have found enlightenment here after bathing in the Phaphra.nPleased by his dedication and repentance, Lord Shiva granted him the boon that Rishi Ashtabakra would be worshipped before Lord Shiva to gain Shiva’s love.nOn the instructions of the Supreme Lord, Vishwakarma – the architect of the gods – constructed a beautiful temple in honour of the sage. This temple came to be known as the Bakreshwar Shakti Peetha and abounds in legends of the sage. Must have darshan
