West Springs Veterinary Hospital

I've only been here twice now since I got my new puppy but I can already tell this is a great place to bring your fur kids. It's very clear to me that they treat your pet like they would treat their own. On my first visit I met another pet parent who couldn't stop raving about these vets. That was clearly a great sign! Definitely worth checking out!

Dr. Elock and the team at West Springs Vet Hospital are so wonderful. Dr. Elock is kind and compassionate and truly loves her patients. She takes the time to really get to know her patients, build trust and make them feel comfortable and at ease. Whenever we take our pets in to see her and the team, it feels more like visiting family than a business.

Edited Feb 2 2021: since my original review, the clinic has change hands, to my extreme disappointment. Dr. O was amazing, and gave my cats such great care. He even called to say he was moving and selling his practice. Luckily, the new vets have continued to provide our cats with excellent care. Dr. Alan was very gentle with our cats and was the one to perform dental cleaning on our second kitty (first was by Dr. O a few years prior). Reception staff is very kind and responsive via email if you’re not the calling type. We get email reminders on the cats’ checkups and they don’t push you to come in if kitties are doing fine and they don’t have shots due. I like that my cats have been moved to a 3-year FVRCP vs the annual one - just saves unnecessary stress for the cats! Just adopted a third kitten and will be bringing her here with her siblings.nnOriginal review (initially posted 2015):nnMy cats have seen Dr. Oprikov since they were kittens of about 4 months old. When I was researching vets in the area prior to bringing my cats home, West Springs Vet was the only animal hospital I called where they actually had the vet call me to answer any questions/concerns that I had (rather than a nurse/receptionist). As a new pet guardian who had no idea what to do or expect, Dr. O's time was much appreciated. He also guaranteed that he would have the best rates in the city (they were indeed the lowest of any clinic I called in the West Calgary area), and that they offered a multiple cat discount too.nnDr. O and his team have always been gentle with my kitties. They are thorough, knowledgeable, and patient. When my kitties had to get spayed, I was confident that they would get the best care they needed, and they did. My cats acted like nothing happened when they got home, and had a speedy recovery (their nails were also neatly clipped and they were well fed when we were gone!) It is obvious that this team takes pride in what they do, and they genuinely love animals.nnThe staff at the clinic are also always polite and courteous, whether in person or on the phone. Pam is lovely and is just as gentle with the cats as Dr. O is!nnI am so glad to have found this vet close to my neighbourhood. Even if I were to move, I would continue to bring my cats here for annual check ups and any issues that may come up.

Sometimes a brief encounter tells as much or more about a business as a long standing relationship.nLast Saturday, November 28, 2020, we woke up to find our 17 year old Bichon in sad shape. He had been failing for some time and we thought we could postpone the dreadful day, but it was now upon us. Milo would not eat and could barely stand. His time had come.nOur regular vet was closed and another one we called was not prepared to take us. They directed us to West Springs. We were told to come over in a couple of hours.nWe had never been to this vet hospital, and we and Milo were treated with impeccable professionalism. These kind people took care of us .Milo left this life in the hands of people displaying the utmost grace in their profession.nnIf we choose to have another pet, West Springs will be our vet without a doubt, and we will let everyone around us who has a pet know that this is the place to go.nnOnly a few hours can show you a lot.

The best veterinary care in the city. Dr Kaylan Elock has been a blessing for us during our most difficult times. She’s extremely knowledgeable, caring, honest and professional. Has never left us alone when our doggos need her help. Thank you Dr Elock and team for being so wonderful and special.
