You can go here for a half day trip. On a whole we liked this place a lot and it's just not the lake, the entire stretch on the way to avalanche lake is full of beautiful land scapes. And you can see the farming lands on those valley.. Forest path is also really good.

Nice scenary to watch.They'll show some view points which will most likely at the top of a mountain.Try to go in the morning for seeing animals.The water in the lake is of wonderful taste you can get down the slope and taste it

Easily one of the best places to visit in the area. Have been visiting Ooty since I was a child and I can't believe that this was the first time I've been there. Definitely recommend everyone to check it out.
