I have paid premiums for the past two years primarily for health insurance for my wife and me while traveling to Europe. In addition to health insurance, the policy provides coverage for other incidental items such as loss of baggage, passports etc. In April, 2018 we were the victims of a theft from our rental car in Valencia, Spain. Along with other items, our suitcase and another small bag containing an Ipad and our passports were stolen. Upon returning to India, we filed a claim for the cost of the replacement passports. Every time we contacted our agent, he informed us that the claim was being processed and would be settled soon. Finally two days ago I received a deficiency letter asking for additional documents such as boarding passes proving we had in fact traveled to Spain, copies of exit and entry visas from our passports, proof of payment for the replacement passports etc. We have already submitted a copy of the Spanish police report(thereby proving we were in fact in Spain), copies of our old and new passports( no one is able to get replacement passports without paying the fees, which incidentally had to be paid in cash). I was not aware I could make a claim for lost passports so I did not retain the receipts, however, the government website lists the cost of obtaining replacement passports, thus the cost can be easily verified. I was told this morning that once I submit whatever I am able to, they will process the claim. Apollo Munich was very happy to accept my premiums but are making it very difficult for us to get reimbursed for a small amount of the considerable expense we have had to incur in replacing everything that was stolen from our car. We plan to travel again next year but will certainly not be purchasing health insurance from Apollo Munich.
