St. Elmo is a charming photogenic ghost town at 10,000 feet. It boasted successful gold, silver, and tin mines in the 1870's. Buildings have been restored with woods originally used. It's a delightful historical walk.

As you are on your way to Lake Isabel, the amount of deer you come across nonchalantly grazing in the farm lands is beautiful, same with the stunning views. Once you enter the Pike/San Isabel National Forest and then get to the lake is when the beauty truly opens up. Its not a huge lake compared to others but it is certainly beautiful in its own right. Only a 50min/~40mi drive from Pueblo and well worth the drive.

This place is absolutely beautiful. To start with, the views are perfect, and there are also a variety of trees. The ponderosa is what I saw a bunch of times. I would definitely recommend to come in autumn just like I did. Don’t tell anyone, but some parts of the patches of trees had aspens, which were pure insanity. Overall these forest were beautiful.

Driving up Pike's Peak made for a wonderful day long getaway for a crew of five folk in their 20s. $50 for the toll road up the mountain got us a very memorable trip. The rangers were very helpful and friendly, and they made sure to check the temperature of our brakes and make sure that we knew how to switch into low gear on our car. Our personal trip up and down the mountain was about 5 hours, but we spent a very large amount of that time stopped at roadside stops to take photos of ourselves on the mountainside. There were tons of bathrooms, and tons of rangers and support staff who were listed as qualified for medical support situations. Absolutely would recommend this trip if you want photo ops and a day trip wrapped in one.
