This building is a legacy of the British and it may easily be more than a century and a half old. The architecture is distinctly European. You can't but marvel at the enormous foresight of the British to build such a grand edifice way back so many years ago.nIt serves as the nerve center of train commuters within the city and the state. Area is reasonably clean and the officials are sort of efficient. It's the ever present throng of people that puts you off.

We booked our tickets on line, so we just showed up 20 mn before . The station itself is a heritage building, the railway is small gauge, with old wagons, and the possibility to choose between diesel and steal engine. The ride is quite short, with one stop before we reach the final station Ghoom. At the terminus, everyone goes down and can take pics of old engine. There is a free museum retracing the history of the Himalayan railways. The whole journey, with return via the same track, takes 2 hours and cost 10 USD per people.nIt's very scenic, very slow, and the train is a few cm away from cars, houses, shops....very enjoyable...
