Sitapur eye hospital

Sitapur Eye Hospital started very low in the year 1926 in a small town called Khairabad, 5 miles from Sitapur. The founder of this hospital, Dr. Mahesh Prasad Mehra was the Medical Officer Incharge of the District Board Dispensary in Khairabad. He was very much inspired by eye patients, till then there was no suitable system to treat eye patients. Gradually he started taking more and more interest in eye work and started attracting eye patients to Uttar Pradesh and surrounding provinces of India. Eye Hospital Khairabad is known throughout India. The eye work expanded so much that hundreds of temporary slum huts had to be built to accommodate the eye patients. Eye patients started coming in large numbers. It became impossible to accommodate them in temporary slums in the city of Khairabad. In 1943, the establishment of the present Eye Hospital building at Sitapur instead of Khairabad. 10,000 / - was initially donated by Shrimati Narayana Devi. Gradually, this hospital was transformed into a grand building. And along with the patients of Aakho, this hospital became important in the sightseeing of Sitapur.
