Metcalfe corridor became built in the mid nineteenth century in honour of Charles Metcalfe, officiating Governor trendy of India in 1835-36, who later served as Governor popular of Canada. The building changed into designed by way of C.okay.Robinson in classical Greek style and is mentioned for its colonnades supported with the aid of huge Corinthian columns.nnThe constructing has been painstakingly restored and the reveals had been carefully selected. there's no entry charge. Metcalfe corridor is really really worth a visit for each citizens of and traffic to the metropolis. it is a superbly restored historical past constructing with exciting shows conjuring the essence of Kolkata, consisting of a video show within the entrance of finger puppetry that's magical. ud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cnVisually similar to the Greek temples in Athens, Metcalfe Hall is a heritage building at the junction of Strand Road and Hare Street in the heart of Kolkata’s business district. Reflective of the British imperial architecture at the beginning of the 19th century, the building was constructed between 1840 and 1844. The Metcalfe Hall was named after Sir Charles T. Metcalfe, the Governor-General of India, in honour of his efforts towards a free press. Initially the building housed the Calcutta Public Library collection, formed by Lord Metcalfe himself, who transferred 4675 volumes from the library of the College of Fort William. Presently, the ground floor houses the Asiatic Society’s rare foreign journals and manuscripts, while the first floor houses offices, exhibition galleries and a sales counter of the Archaeological Survey of India.nud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9cud83dudc9c
