Beautiful place but no security available.nThe state forest department has started the process to close down the deer breeding centre at Farakka that was being run illegally for almost 12 years. TOI had recently reported that the breeding and rescue centre, developed in 2002 on a land owned by the Farakka Barrage authorities, was set up 'without permission from thennCentral Zoo Authority of Indiann'. The centre at present houses 12 axis deer and all of them are starving.nnSources said that the forest department received instruction recently to shift all the deer to Bethuadahari and close down the centre. Accordingly, forest officials, in presence of ADFO Madhusudan Hazra, started removing the fence around the park on Wednesday. The foresters expect they can shift all the deer within seven to ten days.nnIt all started in 2002, when the Left-run Murshidabad Zilla Parishad started this deer breeding and rehabilitation centre jointly with the forest department. Former CPM MPnnAbul Hasnatnnspotted a 7-hectare land, owned by the barrage authorities, in an island on the Ganges. According to him, he convinced the forest department for its maintenance and brought 13 deer from Nadia's Bethuadahari to start the project. Hasnat revealed that a whopping Rs 20 lakh were spent to fence the area and the forest department released Rs 3-4 lakh a year for its maintenance.nnBut everything changed afternnCongressnnsnatched the Murshidabad Zilla Parishad from Left in 2003 and Siddika Begum became the sabhadhipati of ZP.
