Green Lawrence Wharton was a member of the first group of missionaries sent by the Disciples of Christ in Indianapolis USA to India, he was the leader of the group. He assisted in establishing the joint work of the Foreign Christian Missionary Society and Christian Women Board Mission in India and laboured for more than a quarter of a century in that field. He also established the Christian Bible College in the year 1906 at Jabalpur (M.P.) which is now known as the Disciples Church of Christ, Church of North India under the Diocese of Jabalpur.
