For a journey from Darjeeling to Ghoom through Batasia Loopb in Steam Engine Train, that had been running in last century which is of wonderful experience in life. We can book online first class ticket on IRCTC website and second class ticket from the Darjeeling Railway Station.

The Mountain Railway of India consists of three railways: the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway located in the foothills of the Himalayas in West Bengal (Northeast India) having an area of 5.34 ha., the Nilgiri Mountain Railways located in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu (South India) having an area of 4.59 ha. and the Kalka Shimla Railway located in the Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh (Northwest India) having an area of 79.06 ha. All three railways are still fully functional and operational.

The Darjeeling Toy Train, or Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) as it is officially known, has been one of the iconic attractions drawing tourists to this hill town in the Himalayas. It is one of the three railways designated by the UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name of ‘Mountain Railways of India’. It runs on a 2 ft. narrow gauge track, from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, a distance of 88 km. There are still some steam locomotives being used by the Railway, but most have been converted to diesel. If you are doing the full journey from New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri to Darjeeling then it will be pulled by a diesel loco. If you want to enjoy a steam loco ride then it is better to do the joy ride tourist train from Darjeeling to Ghum, or take the ‘Red Panda’ from Darjeeling to Kurseong. The special steam tourist trains are hauled by the vintage British built B-Class steam locomotives. Tourists enjoy the mountain scenery as it makes its way up the hillside in amazing loops and reversals to negotiate the bends.
