Diamond Mining Office

Asia's biggest and only active diamond mine is situated in Madhya Pradesh due to this it is also known as treasure land. Majhagaon diamond mine is laid down over an area of 50 km belt, starting from the Paharikhera North-East to Majhgawan South-West with breadth of around 30 kms.

This is the only active mine of diamond in Asia as it is found mainly in kimberlite stone which is found in Panna region only. Around 1 million carat of diamond have been extracted from here. The daily production is around 100-150 carats. 1 carat =200 mg. Mainly 3 types of diamonds are found here. Transparent, creamy white and black. The black diamond is known as industrial diamond as it is mainly used in various machines in industry. The first two types of diamonds are used for making jewelery. This mine is an open mine having shape of a funnel and around 130 mts deep. There is only 1 mine which is being explored since 1827. The NMDC is located deep inside the Panna National Park.
