Liveroot Bridge Riwai

This is a fantastic example of how human beings can live in harmony with nature, a glowing example of the local culture of sustainable development. Living roots from rubber trees on either sides of a stream are joined together to form the bridge. With time as the roots grow thicker, the bridge becomes stronger.

One of the many living root bridges in Meghalaya. The Bridge is easier to reach and does not involve much of a trek. The living root bridges of Meghalaya are made by stretching live roots of trees across streams, typically, it takes 70 to 80 years to build a living root bridge.

15min trek from parking place. One of the best place in Meghalaya to see the nature’s creation. If you are not able to trek to double decker root bridge then do visit this place. Cross the bridge and sit sometimes beside the waterfall. We will feel like heaven. Loved it.

There are two approaches to the bridge ... The normal parking is higher up in the village and requires a lot of stairs to reach.nThe better option is to ask your driver to park in the lower parking from where u only need to go down 50 steps ... 10-15 minutes walk. But still not for elderly or people with knee problems.

A beautiful living root bridge near the cleanest village of the country, Mawlynnong. The falls are clean n clear. A steep flight of stairs leads you to the Riwai Bridge, posing difficulties for the aged. All in all a good place to spend time with nature's bounty
