A historic place under renovation.

The Gol Kothi is currently under renovation work and the place can be quite interesting once it is restored. It is one of the many monuments that dot the city of Kapurthala. ‘Gol Kothi’ which stands opposite to the official residence of  senior superintendent of police (SSP) has a rich history. It was built by Raja Fateh Singh in 1833 and was once the residence of Mahamantris (prime ministers) of this erstwhile princely state.It is also believed that Maharaja Jagatjit Singh spent his early years in the building in the 1880s. The building was apparently in shambles and was declared unsafe by the PWD. Since 2017 there have been efforts to renovate and restore the property. The targeted deadline was May 2019 which has come and gone. If it is pursued seriously then it may get completed by May 2020.
