This art gallery is unique in Imphal. It's pretty far from Kangla fort, which is the heart of the Imphal city.nnIt is run by a private household. You can donate money. It's in the interior and there's no board in front of the house. There is just a sign board showing in which road it is. You can hardly spend 10 to 15 minutes there.nnIf you have a limited time to tour around Imphal, you can choose to exclude visiting this place.

Three Mothers Art Gallery Museum is an art lover’s paradise. It serves as a gallery as well as a museum. It is situated in the Thangapat Mapal Palace premise, Imphal East, at Manipur. It is an amazing place that is sure to calm down the soul of an art lover.nnThe Three Mothers Art Gallery Museum, merely 4.3 km away from Imphal, was established in the year 1978. December 2009 witnessed an addition of a workshop to facilitate training and encouraging new artists. The construction of the workshop is accredited to the Assam Rifles Civic Action Program. It is definite to enlighten the tourists and the upcoming generations with the rich tradition, culture, history and heritage of the state. The mystery behind the nomenclature of the art gallery is revealed by the urge to signify mothers in various forms. Three mothers namely the motherland, the mother tongue and the birth giving mother are paid tribute and hence the nomenclature.nnThe Three Mothers Art Gallery museum houses a unique art form namely the art form of Driftwood Sculpture. The precious artwork of Gurumayum Shyamsundar Sharma is exhibited in the museum. He is famous for his sculpture out of a single piece of wood and the beautiful incorporation of the natural shape of the wood into the sculpture. The art gallery has masterpiece of various size and shape ranging from small idols to massive dragons.

These sculptures belong in a collection of priceless exhibits but have sadly been cast away to slow destitution.. these sculptures depict Manipuri folklore in an abstraction uncommon in religious art. . an absolute must visit in Imphal!!!!

What a treasure trove this place is! Not very difficult to find but you'll probably miss it if you don't know bout it. It's located in a lane off a service road beside a pond a little away from the main road. Found it thanks to google maps. Not a posh gallery or museum but a humble one inside the local house of the artist's descendants. The artist's daughter is a sweet old lady who will warmly smile at you and open the doors of the hall housing her father's life's work which are astounding to say the least. Feel free to move around, examine and get awestruck by the artwork but please do not touch them. Also, do donate generously, though it is completely voluntary. A must visit for artifact lovers.
