Firstly not many are aware of this adventurous place located in Kadappa district of Andhra Pradesh. KSRTC buses ply from Kempegowda Bus Station ( Majestic ) to Jammalamadugu. If I am right it leaves Majestic by 0700 or 0830 hrs and reaches its destination by afternoon, around 1600 hrs, a good 250 kms from Bangalore.Need to take an auto to reach Gandikota, which is approximately 15 kms. Alternatively, travel in your own vehicle. Roads are good and you will enjoy the outskirts. At Gandikota, there is Andhra Pradesh Tourism Hotel, serving food at your request and choice, if told in advance. Things might have changed since I went way back in 2014/15.nA/C and non A/C rooms, single / double rooms and Dormitory for big groups are available. All within a compound. Economical and safe.nComing to the main attraction, the fort called Gandikota built in a gorge, protected by a natural ravine on one side. River Pennar flowing as well. The fort has its own interesting history with 12th century antidotes.nInside the fort there are many interesting structures, namely Hindu Temples, Mosque, Jail, Palace, Soldier quarters, Rain water harvesting and many other necessary buildings required within a fort. Visit the place to gain knowledge ud83dude01. What interested me was the structure of the jail and the location to build the fort. The Gorge / Ravine is sight to behold. River Pennar separates the fort from the main land enhancing the secureness. You can spend at least a couple of hours inside the fort and another couple of hours amazed at the natural canyon. Need to be careful as the rocky / sandy place can be dangerous. Its a day visit at the fort and best time to visit is between September to February. Other times the temperature can reach the deadly forties. There are boat rides and other places nearby, but do check with locals or the staff at the APSTDC staff. Worthwhile trip in this amazing country called India.
