The Nako Buddhist monastery is located in the village of Nakko in the Hangrang valley, Kinnour district of the northern province of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at an elevation of about 11,600 feet above sea level. The monastery of Nako was founded by Ratan Bhadra in the first half of the 11th century. There are total 4 chambers in this Buddhist monastery.nSeveral statues made of clay are installed in the main chamber of the Vihara. These mainly include the statues of Amogh Siddhi, Ratna Sambhav, Vairochan, Amitabh and Akshobhya.nApart from this, a beautiful statue of Pragya Paramita is installed in this room. There is also a small chamber inside the wall below it. Which is called the Gone section. A statue of Nath named Chhos-Kyong or Dharmapala is installed inside it. Visiting this place is possible only after performing various types of ritual. Apart from this, the ancient and beautiful depiction of pictures of various Buddhist deities is worth seeing on the walls of this entire Buddhist Vihara. Several ancient stupas are also located outside the courtyard of this Buddhist vihara. A holy lake called Nako is also located a few hundred meters from here. About whom various stories are prevalent here.nnSource : Buddha VaninImage credits : Akash Maurya

The monastic complex in Nako, comprises four temples apart from other buildings. From outside, the monastery exude a very simple appearance, but this is in contrast to what you will see inside.nnTwo temples are of utmost importance here, the Main temple and the Upper temple. Both these temples are considered the oldest amongst all the structures and still preserve their original clay sculptures, murals and ceiling panels. The largest temple or the main temple is also called the Translator's Temple. It also happens to be the oldest monument in the village.nnThe third structure in the complex is the Small White temple, which though not in a good state, is worth visiting for its wonderful wooden door-frame with scenes of the Life of the Buddha carved on the lintel.nnThe fourth structure is quiet the same size as the Upper Temple and is also situated besides it. The temple is today known as the Temple of Wide Proportions (rGya-dpag-pa'i lHa-khang).
