This place is among the very few places among the mangroves which are protected.Mangrove forest has a vital role in controlling climate and biodiversity of the place form natural calamities.

This is a small patch of mangroves left in the Asramam coast of Ashtamudi Lake. Otters (Mustelidae Lutrinae) can be seen in abundance. This ecosystem needs to be conserved for the future generation.
