Tomb of Muhammad GhausnThe largest tomb in the park belongs to Muhammad Ghaus. Born in 1500 AD, Muhammad Ghaus was a Sufi saint and musician who assisted Barbur with his acquisition of Gwalior Fort in 1526.nnThe tomb is square with a slightly squat central dome which was once decorated with blue tiles, now sadly missing. The walls of the tomb are nearly 2m thick, supporting hexagonal corner towers crowned by smaller domes.nnThe highlight of this tomb from an architectural perspective are the carved stone lattices (jaalis) , which are on the outer wall of a lofty verandah that surrounds the inner chamber.nnMohammed Ghaus was the teacher (Guru) of Tansen. Tomb of Tansen is nearby to the tomb of his guru.

Ghaus Mohammed was a 15th century Sufi saint. He was an Afghan prince who later became a Sufi. He was the teacher of musician Tansen. He was the advisor of King Babur. The Tomb of Ghaus Mohammed is the best example of Medieval Mughal architecture design. The tomb has a gorgeous look with its mind blowing architectural beauty and stone carvings.nnGhaus Muhammed never adorned any seat of power, but different Mughal rulers including Akbar the Great took years of effort to build such a marvellous tomb in memory of him. It shows the prestigious position he had among the ruled. The Tansen Tomb or the Memorial or Tansen is also placed nearby.n#MohammedGhausTomb

Tomb of Mohammad Ghaus, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, IndiannMuhammad Ghaus (or Ghawth) was a 16th c Sufi saint and teacher of the Mughal emperor Humayun as well as Tansen, the famous musician in Akbar’s court. The saint’s large tomb, built in the second half of the 16th c during Akbar’s rule, is the main structure in the garden complex located about a kilometer away from Gwalior Fort’s main eastern approach, and is surrounded by graves and smaller pavilion tombs, including that of Tansen.nnThe large central dome of the saint’s tomb tops the actual enclosed and walled large single room that houses the tomb, and the surrounding structure is more like a verandah with jaalis (perforated stone screens), which gives the structure a larger “enclosed” appearance than it actually has. The central dome with four small chattris (domed pavilions) resting on a prominent rectangular base has a shape much like many domes found in central India, for example similar to the domes of Hoshang Shah’s tomb in Mandu and the Mandu Jami Masjid.

Visited this tomb back in January before the lockdown. This tomb was constructed for Mohammad Ghaus, the Sufi saint and advisor to the Mughal Emperor Akbar, music teacher to Tansen, whose tomb is also in this tomb complex. The building walls are beautifully crafted of fine latticework, while the building is a fine example of Mughal architecture. One of the best things to see in Gwalior.

Tomb of Mohammad Ghaus is a very popular shrine and revered in Gwalior. It's visited by all irrespective of cast as he was great Sufi Saint. He was a Prince of Afghanistan later became a Saint with his assistance Babur could get the control of Gwalior Fort in 1526 AD. He was the spiritual Guru of Classical Music Master Tansen who was one of the Navratna of Akbar. This mausoleum was built during the reign of Emperor Akbar. It is one of the magnificent architectural marvel and heritage. Its square plan, central squat dome hexagonal domes at corners seems to be a nice fusion of Hindu and Islamic architecture. Its walls are made of pierced Stone's screens which are very finely carved and having geometrical patterns. These screens keep the central chamber fresh and spiritual environment. It's a must visit place and homage to the great Sufi Saint.
