One of the Emergency services available in delhi. Safdarjung Hospital is a 1,840-bed multi-specialty hospital, one of the largest government hospitals in India. It is located in New Delhi on the Ring Road, right opposite the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).[1][2] Until the inception of All India Institute of Medical Science in 1956, Safdarjung Hospital was the only tertiary care hospital in South Delhi. In 1962, it became a center of training and teaching of Post-graduate students of the University of Delhi. From 1973 to 1990, the hospital and its faculty was associated with University College of Medical Sciences. But with the establishment of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 1998, the college and hospital were later associated with the [[Vardhman Mahavir Medical College|. The first batch of MBBS students joined the college in February 2002. More than ten batches have joined since. The college has recognition by the Medical Council of India. It is included in the World Directory of Medical Schools and the Avicenna Directory of Medicine. college runs under the umbrella of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.nnVardhman Mahavir Medical College was established at Safdarjung Hospital (one of the largest hospitals in India, started during the Second World War) in November 2001.[2]nHistorynThe first batch of MBBS students joined the college in February 2002. From 2008 onwards the postgraduate courses have been affiliated to GGSIPU which were with Delhi University. Although the college began on a very modest note on infrastructure carved out of the portions of the Safdarjang Hospital. The college has a separate library building with an excellent collection of medical books and journals, and Internet facility. The college has a faculty in the pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.
