Elephant Falls

Elephant Falls is situated in12 km away from Shillong. The fall is named after an Elephant like stone at its foot. It is a two-tier waterfalls, the mountain stream descends through two successive falls set in dells of fern-covered rocks. Elephant Waterfalls is a superb place for spending some time in the midst of nature. It’s a tourists' paradise.

If you are looking for a scenic place complete with mountains, forest with pine trees and a picturesque step waterfall , you have surely found the right place. Well maintained and all the safety precautions are in place. Has a parking place and restaurants in case you want to go for a quick bite. Entry fee is set at ₹100/head.

We came mid September while it's still been raining, the waterfall was very full and beautiful. The place is peaceful. You have to walk down steps to reach the first level, and then many more to reach the second and third level, but it's not so much - maybe 5min - and there are hand rails along all the steps for those who might have trouble. There is ample parking for two or four wheeler. Toilets there are very clean. Some snacks and food available onsite. We came just after they had reopened after the Covid lockdown and there has been a pretty big price hike: it used to be rs20 per person, now it's rs100. Rs200 per bike. They have a list of the new prices in the office you can refer to. It's pretty high, but I understand that they're trying to recover after the lockdown. It was worth it for us to have a small escape from being stuck at home day after day. Our young son loved it, and I'm sure we'll be back.

The scenic beauty is very mesmerizing. The place is quite crowded as it is the main tourist attraction in Shillong. It would be better to visit when it is less crowded.
