The temple is some 122 kilometres (76 mi) from the City of Jaisalmer, and it takes about two hours to reach by road. The area has a high average windspeed and as a result there are now a large number of wind-based renewable energy projects in the area. The road to Tanot is surrounded with miles and miles of sand dunes and sand mountains. The temperatures in the area can go up to 49 °C and ideal time to visit the place is from November to January.

Visited this temple after Lockdown .nDtd 18th November 2020. Temple is open for all devotees as regular time. We was there around 3:00 to 4:00 pm (15:00 to 16:00)nn• Mask is compulsory. Without mask they will not allow.nnOur route was from sam desert to longewala to Tanot rai mandir. After Sam desert, we hardly find drinking water and petrol. So i suggest you to take enough drinking water and petrol if you travel their by your own vehicle.nnHopefully this will help you.nHappy journey..

The Tanot Mata temple lies near the Indo-Pak border. It is also known as the sister temple to Hinglaj and Karni Mata. The Indian Army maintains the temple. In 1971, at the time of war between India and Pakistan, Pakistan’s army bombarded the Indian army base and the Tanot Mata temple. It is said that due to the blessings of the Goddess, the Indian army could fight the war and was victorious.
