A peaceful place . It has got its own importance. This is the birthplace of Swami Shivananda whose premonastic name was Taraknath Ghosal who was born in 1864. He was a monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. Ashrama was started in 1961and came to be a branch centre of Belur Math in 1985.nRamkanai Ghoshal who was a lawyer and Tantrik was his father. He was also very charitable. Swami Vivekananda called Swami Shivananda 'Mahapurush’ which means ‘great soul’, and since then he came to be known as ‘Mahapurush Maharaj’.nThere is a library with many books, periodicals and newspapers. A charitable homeopathic-cum-allopathic dispensary is also there serving people.nDaily worship, bhajans, regular religious discourses and classes are conducted.nThe birth tithis of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Shivananda and other religious personalities, and celebration of festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, etc. Are also observed.
