Raniganj is a railway station on the Bardhaman – Asansol section. It is located in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It lies in the heart of Raniganj Coalfield and serves the neighbourhood of Raniganj and the surrounding mining- industrial area of Asansol. The first passenger train in Eastern India ran from Howrah to Hooghly on 15th august 1854. The track was extended to Raniganj by 1855. It is located in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman. It lies in the heart of Raniganj coalfield and serves the neighbourhood of Raniganj in Asansol, and the surrounding mining area of Asansol. It is operated by eastern railways and there are four platforms. It was electrified in 1960-1961. Previouly it was called East India Railway Company, it was a joint collaboration between prince Dwarakanath Tagore and Martin Burn. The main objective was to carry coal to Hoogly through the railway system.

Thos station is the transportational lifeline of Raiganj as it connects the city with the northern town Siliguri, the state capital Kolkata and the National capital Delhi. Small but well maintained station, nice ambiance and not very much crowdy.
