Saint Francis Church in Fort Cochi is the first Portuguese church in India. Vasco da Gama, who discovered the sea route from Europe to India, died in Kochi in 1524. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were moved to Lisbon. The St. Francis Church is located in the heart of Fort Kochi and is one of the most momentous places to visit in Kochi.

You see the word CSI outside the church and on entering, there is a tomb. Only that it is owned by Church of South India, though protected under Archaeological Survey of India.nOne of the oldest European Church of India being 500 years old.nIt has witnessed lot of historical moments. Vasco Da Gama was originally buried here, the original tomb is preserved very well.nNot enough reasons to visit, look up and you can notice how the early Europeans handled the hot & humid weather in India.

One of the oldest European church in India. Very calm place. More than 500 years old. The fan used in old days was fascinating.
