This is an Indian Army contonment serving as a base for Dolkam post. India has a long term cultural, religious, political, and military involvement in Bhutan. It is essentially a protectorate of the Kingdom against China. Even though Bhutan has a border with China, it remains closed. However, there is open transit between Bhutan and India. Hydroelectric power is also a major source of income for Bhutan, much of which is sold to India. Bhutan is a small country and India acts as a protective brother with very good relationship between the two countries. Although Bhutan has its own currency, Indian Ruppies are used with east in Bhutan. In fact many merchants prefer Indian Ruppies which they use for trade and purchases without having to exchange it.
