Though the rooms are small but the terrace is great. I had a great party on the terrace. The view from terrace is amazing. If you are low on budget, book this one via booking.com

I stayed at Bansal Guesthouse in the lovely and ancient town of Almora for a total of 20 days. I have been in India for almost one year on a research fellowship that has taken me to many parts of the country where I've lived for several months at a time in guesthouses and home stays and this was definitely my favorite place I've stayed! The kind owner Mr. Rasul Bansal and his smiley and amazingly kind helper Ashok ji became like uncles to me and I can honestly say I haven't stayed at a friendlier hotel or home stay anywhere in India! As a a young woman traveling alone, I also felt extremely safe staying here and also like I was being looked out for. The rooms are simple, but very clean and staff are very available, exceedingly friendly and go above and beyond to check that all things are well. I highly recommend the rooftop view with lovely views of the hills at sunset, cool breezes in the evenings, and a great perch from which to observe comings and goings in the market below. Bansal's menu is simple with not a ton of elaborate dinner options, but the cafe itself is a nice place to work, hang out, meet locals, and the breakfast (especially the pancakes!) is quite good. Rajul Bansal has impeccable English, and Ashok's is quite good too, and both are happy to share information and advise on logistics within Almora or making plans for trips beyond. Several times over meals, Rajul sat and chatted with me about my work in Almora or life back at home which was really nice. These guys truly go above and beyond what they need to in order to help their guests out, for example, genuinely interested in how I was each morning, checking on me frequently when I was sick in bed for a week, walking me all the way to the bus stand since I had extra bags when leaving, or helping me get sweets from the oldest and most famous shop in town when I had a dinner reservation. I'll miss this place mostly for its exceptional people and will certainly be back next time I'm in Almora!

My husband and I stayed here six days in June, and my husband stayed on his own, also for six days, before I arrived in India.nnThis is a lovely place to stay, right in the heart of Almora, close to the bus stand and just steps from the bazaar, where you can buy fruit and veg.nnThe service we get from Ashok, who keeps the Bansal immaculately clean, is exceptional. He is always eager to make sure we're comfortable and have everything we want.nnRahul, the owner, is friendly and always ready to chat or answer questions. He also cooks the snacks and meals in the restaurant downstairs.nnThe room is on the small side, but extremely clean and comfortable. There's plenty of room to hang out on the balcony and rooftop. Everything in the bathroom works -- no small thing in a budget hotel -- and hot water is available on request, for a reasonable charge.nnThe entire place is well maintained and very attractive, with lots of plants and paintings by Rahul.nnFor a budget hotel, the Bansal provides excellent value, and is a delightful place to come back to at the end of the day.
