Forty years down (some where in 1982-83) my memory lane I was a young doctor working in the newly started Trichur Medical College Hospital. A destitute/ mentally ill women in our orthopaedic ward had given birth to a female child. As there was no one to take care of the child my self along with a few nurses took care of the child for a few months in the hospital. We wanted to leave this child in some place where she will be looked after. At that time I remembered this SOS village (which I came across during one of my long walks). I was impressed by the persons managing the institute. The child was shifted to the village after completing the legal formalities. She must be be in her late thirties now! That was my experience with this SOS Children’s village.

It's a branch of prominent international non-profit organisation SOS Children's Villages. The concept of this organisation is to provide mother care to every child. There will be a loving and passionate mother for every child. Anyone can visit and sponsor the children here at anytime. Here we can see children from 0-18 who studying in different schools in thrissur district. The children from above 18+ will be in their college hostels or work. SOS will take care every individual till 24 years of age. After 24 years of age, may support 3 more years if the individual are still struggling to manage his/her life. SOS was started by Austrian philanthropist Dr. Herman Miner after WWI and now it has spread through 100+ countries in the world. In Kerala there are 2 villages, in Aluva and Thrissur (in India 38 villages). If you want to sponsor a child, you can donate through their official website (monthly ₹600 and higher) or visit directly here.
