Cheranmahadevi railway station is located around 1.3 kms from the central bus stand.nAnd there is a bus stop (Old Bus stand bus stop) which is located around 300 meters from the railway station.nAfter Tirunelveli this is the biggest railway station in the route before Ambasamudram.nIt has a cycle and car parking services also available.

In 1903 at the instance of Tinnevelly District Board, the Madras Government sanctioned a reconnaissance survey for a Railway line from Sermadevi (on the South Indian Railway) to Panagudi near the boundary of Nanguneri taluk and Travancore. When the Railway was starting the work, the Travancore Durbar announced it would object to the line being extended into their territory. Hence the scheme was abandoned.
