One of the better places in Burdwan town to visit during daytime. This is situated in the main rajbari (palace) of Burdwan. No entry fee.nThere are many old archeological findings preserved in the museum, mainly sculptures of hindu God and Goddess from 1000 AD, sankhs, dining tables, chairs, cupboards used by the Maharaja of Burdwan and his family. On the 1st floor there are many paintings of the guests and family members of Maharaja.. and a big fresco painting of Maharaj getting honoured by the british.nThe architecture of the enormous palace is awestrucking. The essence of history will definitely attract wanderers.nIn the backyard there is the stable, room for the then stable man, and above that there are many ghulghuli (room for pegions), and beside that there is a garden with a small patch of green grass where you can rest your tired legs and enjoy the view of palace and various flowers in the calm afternoon. I liked this place.

Calm, and beautiful with old buildings of the late Chand dynasty, the founder of Burdwan town, now housing the administrative offices of the University of Burdwan. It also houses a small museum, rich with the historical things, and facts about the evolution of Burdwan today. The ground floor of the museum contains various artifacts, Vishnu idols developed through social stages, a giant skeleton of a Buffalo hunted by the Maharaja, royal dining tables, cutlery sets, a huge marble statue of Lord Curzon etc. One side of the upper floor is occupied by a huge, spectacular painting, commemorating the holy ascension of Maharaja Vijaychand Mehtab in his days, geo-political maps of Burdwan town during various times, portraits of the kings of the dynasty, & some other things.
