Dhamek Stupa is one of the most important sights in Sarnath and its mostly due to its antiquity and significance of being the exact spot of Buddha's first sermon. It was here that he revealed the eightfold path leading to nirvana. The stupa is composed of a cylindrical tower that rises around 43m and the diameter of the monument is a formidable 28m. The arched niches halfway on the monument may have once held statues of the Buddha. There are lovely elaborate carvings halfway on the monument on some sides.

Amazing Place. Light and sound show is best. If you want ticket, go early at around 11 am or before 12 pm. Otherwise you may miss the chance of getting a ticket. Specially, in this covid time, only 50 people are allowed at once.

Situated in serene lush green environs you get complete peace of mind when connecting with the divine at the place. The Dhamek Stupa was built as a symbol to memorize the place where the Great Buddha started the preaching of Dharma and it is here he gave his first sermon.

It is said that Buddha preached his first sermon here. This place probably has strong appeal to followers of Buddha.nnNot much was left from Buddha’s era. The Dhamekh stupa is the most prominent material monument. The current building is about 1500 years old, but 1000 younger than original place of first sermon.nnThe place is remarkable for its spiritual value. Visitors can see Buddhist monks praying, preaching or meditating. Their orange robes and distinctive voices bring life in this place
