A small beautiful temple which has a life size reclined wood statue of Buddha. It has chakras made on feet and hands. In evening when drums and other musical instruments are played and monks sing sacred chants the atmosphere becomes truly magical. They give toffees as prasad.nPeaceful place. The dim-light and chanting inside the temple create a different atmosphere. Beautiful place,nIt is built as per Japanese style at Sarnath near Varanasi. All Buddhist countries have their own temple at Sarnath because it is one of the most sacred places for Buddhists. It is here that Gautam Buddha gave his first sermons to his first desciples. It is situated 10kms away from Varanasi & easily accessible by car, autos etc. All autowalas, if you reserve will show one all the temples at Sarnath & the entire journey costs around Rs. 500.,

Japanese temple is also one of the most interesting places to visit in Sarnath. As you enter the temple you can feel the Japanese cultural ambience.nThe architecture of Japanese temple is alike Japanese Temples situated in Japan itself. Inside the temple, lying buddha is in the middle and in the main Sanctum there is buddha stature lined up with for other boddhistvas.nGolden chandelier and bells are all adorned in front of main sanctum.

The Japanese Temple is accessed from near the main market in Sarnath, and is just behind the government-run tourist bungalow. This Japanese temple has typically Japanese aesthetics, with a double storey pagoda with a sloping roof curving up at the eaves that gives it a very calm feel. A placard outside the shrine suggests that it is run by Dharmachakra Indo-Japan Buddhist Cultural Society.nThe original name of the Japanese temple is Nichigai Suzan Horinji Temple but it is commonly referred to as 'Japanese Temple' by local guides and tourists. The pleasing architecture of the temple is reminiscent of the world renowned Japanese temples in Kyoto, Japan. Before the main temple, on the right side, there is a statue of the Buddha in a calm pose beneath a tree. On the left side there is a pillar with Japanese inscriptions.nnThe aura of calmness inside the temple is to be felt to be believed. The interiors of the temple are serenely beautiful. There’s a huge wooden statue of the Buddha in reclining pose with an exquisite design on the head. The Buddhist mantra of Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo is close to the main statue. The aroma of sandalwood is an added charm as all the small statues and other wood furniture is made out of sandalwood. It is a perfect place for meditation and calm. At times, Japanese tourists may be spotted laying prostrate upon the ground in devotion.

It's always better to explore something new. So if you don't know what a Japanese Temple looks like then you must visit there.
