No need to go here if you have been to Monreale. I had the complete tour, where I was rushed from place to place, and never really had time to admire the main part. Before I knew it, I was at the exit without getting to sit under the big mmm mosaic.

The cathedral was erected between 1131 and 1240 in the Norman architectural styly in the island of Sicily. According to tradition, the building was erected after a vow made to the Holy Saviour by the King of Sicily, Roger II, after he escaped from a storm to land on the city's beach. The building has a fortress-like character and, seen from a distance, it dominates the skyline of the surrounding medieval town. It made a powerful statement of the Norman presence. Must visit and have a good religious experience.

Great view from the towers but you can’t take pictures because of the nets

It's worth going up the towers if you get a chance, for a beautiful ocean view and view over Cefalu.

Wonderful cathedral with Norman mosaics and baroque ceiling, high stone arches and marble pillars. Magnificent position
